Winter Essentials: Items you need in your closet right now

Trench coat:

I recently went for the splurge and bought myself a trench coat; and let me say it was well worth the money. If you’re anything like me then you want your winter coat to keep you warm and be trendy at the same time. The trench is a perfect option and its style and cut is timeless, so you’ll be keeping it for years. You can opt for the classic tan version or if you want a more trendy version, get a grey or black one in a fleece-like material. So get rid of those bulky ski jackets and get yourself one of these.

Where to buy: if you want a cheaper version then you can find one at Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe but I recommend saving up a little more cash and getting one at Banana Republic, Zara or Express. They will be made out of much warmer material and trust me, you’ll be wearing this jacket for the next 5 years.

Blanket scarf:

Believe it or not, scarves are back and they are bigger than ever. Literally! The new “blanket scarf” trend has been hitting the runways and they are now they are in stores everywhere. Throw them around your shoulders like a shawl or wrap them up around your neck, you choose. Either way, they will keep you warm and add just a little something to the most basic of outfits. (It will pair perfectly with the trench coat).

Thigh high boots:

Making their big debut last year, the thigh high boots has made it back again. These are one of the hottest trend right now so if you haven’t already bought a pair, you should do it now! On a warmer day you can wear these with a longer sweater dress and they will almost act as tights; and for those cold winter days, pair them with some ultra skinny jeans and an over sized sweater.

Where to buy: if you’re looking for the cheapest version you can find them at Forever 21 but if you want to splurge on a pair that will last you longer, look at Lord and Taylor or Nordstorm. (Great Christmas wish-list item).

Turtleneck:

This is a must. The classic turtleneck is a winter classic and honestly it’s never going to go out of style. If you’re looking for something sleek and chic opt for a more form-fitting version; but if you want something that’s comfy and casual buy yourself an over-sized one. This is perfect to throw on with a pair of jeans and your trench coat. It’s easy and effortless all at the same time.
