Travel Ban Tribulations

Travel+Ban+Tribulations

On Tuesday, September 12th, the Supreme Court passed a ruling on the highly controversial travel ban. After Trump urged the Court to allow the continuation of strict enforcement of the travel ban, SCOTUS, although after watering the ban down, approved and squashed the lower court rulings that said otherwise. On Friday the 15th, a London Terror Attack furthermore added fuel to the fire, leading Trump to call for a “larger, tougher” travel ban as well as to say “Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!” followed shortly after by “Loser terrorists must be dealt with in a much tougher manner. The internet is their main recruitment tool which we must cut off & use better!” Countries with open borders like the U.K. and France have seen many terror attacks in recent years, and just goes to show how crucial strict borders really can be.  The Supreme Court’s ruling allows the 90 day travel ban to remain in effect until late September, with the 120 day travel ban expiring in October. The Supreme Court is entertaining a hearing on October 10, but with the two travel bans ending, it is unclear what will be debated. With Terrorism both domestic and international a very real threat, I am happy to see that we are taking steps to keep Americans safe, which should always be top priority.
