Kevin Spacey has long been seen as one of America’s most treasured and respected actors. He has had a very long and successful career in Hollywood, raking up two oscars. With classic movies such as The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, and the House of Cards TV series, he has been in many famous films and shows. However, in October 2017, all of that would come shattering down for Kevin Spacey. In 2017, Spacey was accused by numerous people of sexual misconduct.

After the accusations came pouring in, Kevin Spacey quickly became outcasted from Hollywood. Netflix cut off ties with Spacey by kicking him off of his House of Cards series, the Emmy’s canceled his nominations, and he was fired from upcoming roles in several movies. All this came from massive backlash from supporters of the victims. This was all during the height of the #MeToo era, where anyone accused of sexual misconduct was subject to career ending consequences. Spacey’s situation was unique because it also forced the actor to come out as gay.

In January 2018, an investigation of an accusation against Spacey began in London. Soon enough, more investigations would come to light in Los Angeles as well. However, the incidents, which occurred in the early 90’s, were out of statute of limitations in Los Angeles.

On December 24, 2018, Kevin Spacey was charged for sexual assault in 2016 at a Massachusetts bar. The actor then posted a mysterious video on YouTube, titled, ̈Let Me Be Frank.” The video depicts Kevin Spacey portraying a character similar to Frank Underwood, his House of Cards character. In the video, Spacey seems to respond to the allegations against him and questions his accusers. His statements, “But you wouldn’t believe the worst without evidence, would you? You wouldn’t rush to judgments without facts, would you? Did you?” seem to be a response to the allegations against him.

On January 7, 2019, Kevin Spacey appeared in court for the 2016 incident. He has since pled not guilty to the accusations.

The future for Kevin Spacey is not for certain. What is certain, is that Hollywood will no longer associate with Spacey. Billionaire Boys Club, which features the actor, did horrible numbers when it released months after the accusations.
