For the first time ever, both of Tewksbury High School’s boys and girls hockey teams have advanced to the state semi-finals. On Tuesday, the boys hockey team beat Danvers in the quarter finals and will play again Monday night in a fight to get to the TD Garden. The girls also won their semi final on Thursday night against Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading. They will also play Monday night with the same goal as the boys in mind.

Being the seventh seed, the boys hockey teams shocked everyone when they beat out the second place team, Linclon Sudbury, in the previous round. After the upset, the boys advanced to play Danvers, the fourteenth seed at the Tsongas Arena. The boys were able to pull off a 4-1 win, including an empty netter at the end of the game.

Because the girls were the third seed, they had a bye in the first round. After a 6-2 win over Westford Academy, they advanced to the quarter finals against the eleventh seed, Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading. After an astounding 7-1 victory, they will move on to play the seventh seed, Longmeadow, in the semi-finals.

The boys will play yet again at the Tsongas center at 5:30 on Monday night, right before the girls’ 7:30 game in Wuborn. If both teams advance, it will be one of very few occasions were two teams from the same town will be competing for a state championship at TD Garden.

The championship game will be played on March 17 at a predetermined time. The girls would compete against the winner of the Austin Prep vs. Andover matchup, and the boys will play the winner of the South Division, Canton who beat Westwood in an 8-0 victory.
