Christmas day is approaching and the holidays are here, so that means plenty of fun activities to do with friends, family, or even by yourself! Baking with family is a favorite of mine, along with completing puzzles. Other options include caroling, decorating, and snowball fights. With so many activities to take part in throughout the holiday season, a trip to the movie theater tends to get overlooked. This holiday season though, whether you are with others or flying solo, going to the movie theater should not be overlooked due to these recent releases.

One extremely popular release is ​Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker​. The release date is December 20, 2019, just before Christmas. Many have already purchased tickets in advance due to the expected high turn-out rates for any ​Star Wars ​movie. This movie follows the characters Finn, Rey, and Poe, among many others, in one last battle. ​Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker​ is definitely not a movie to miss this holiday season.

Another movie coming out during the holidays is ​Little Women​, directed by Greta Gerwig. It comes out on Christmas Day, so if you are lost and looking for something to do, this movie is a great option! ​Little Women​ is about four sisters who support each other through the changing times after the Civil War. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timoth​ée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep, this cast is certainly going to hit it big!

A great movie for younger kids during the holidays is ​Spies in Disguise​. With Will Smith and Tom Holland voicing the main characters, this movie will be a hoot. The release date for this animated movie fun is December 25, 2019, Christmas Day! This adventure follows Lance Sterling, a spy, and Walter Beckett, a nerdy scientist. Even though they are complete opposites, they will need to work together to complete missions and solve a case.

With these three options, plus many more on the table, there won’t be a dull moment during holiday break. From an empowering movie about women making their own way in the world, to the groundbreaking new film in the ​Star Wars​ saga. During the holidays, spending time with your friends and family is important, so don’t take the time that you have off for granted. Get out (if it’s not blizzard conditions) and go experience great movie experiences while enjoying time with your loved ones this holiday season.
