June 7, 2021 South Carolina police department received a 911 call saying two residents were found dead on the Murdaugh’s 1,770 acre land property. Margaret (Maggie) Murdaugh, wife of Alex and Richard (Buster) Murdaugh son of Alex Murdaugh, were shot dead. The surviving members of this powerful family, father Alex Murdaugh and son Buster Murdaugh both had been practicing law for a very long time to keep the continuation of the family’s business.

Paul was awaiting a trial for a 2019 boat crash that involved 19 year old Mallory Beach to be killed. Later that year in April, Paul was arrested and charged with one count of boating under the influence (BUI) and two counts of causing significant bodily injury.

Another mystery took place in September of 2021. Alex’s law firm confronted him about missing money. His law firm came to Alex himself before going to the South Carolina Bar Association, but once Alex was told that more than 1 million dollars was missing, Alex replied by resigning from the firm. On September 8th, Alex Murdaughs law license was temporarily suspended. Just a week later an investigation opened up to indicate if Alex was stealing money from his clients.

On December 9th 2021, Murdaugh was found guilty and was charged with up to 21 counts of forgery, money laundering, computer crimes, breach of trust with fraudulent intent, and obtaining signature or property by false pretenses. The South Carolina attorney came out and said he stole over 6.2 million dollars from his alleged clients.

Now that suspicions are going on the Murdaugh family, South Carolina Law Enforcement opened up an investigation for the death of the Murdaughs housekeeper, Gloria Satterfeild that died from a “trip and fall accident” that happened on Murdaughs property back in 2018. There is much speculation about this case because no autopsy was performed and the case “disappeared” just after 2 months and it was never resolved. People believe Gloria found out about Alex Murdaughs drug addiction while no one was supposed to know, so Alex’s wife Maggie intended to kill her. Alex was taking up to 60 pills of Oxycodone a day.

Gloria’s sons intended to get 505,000, but the sons never got that money. Alex was then charged with 27 counts of financial misconduct for “stealing” the money that was meant for housekeeper Gloria Satterfeild’s family.

Monday morning March 3, 2023 Alex Murdaugh stepped into court to begin his trial as he was convicted for the murder of his wife, Maggie, and son Paul Murdaugh. The shooting took place back in June of 2021. Since 2021 much evidence has been released to believe Alex Murdaugh is guilty. Alex admitted he lied to the cop when they asked his whereabouts at the times of the crime. Alex Murdaugh told the cops that he was not home at the time, but from cell phone tracking and a snapchat video taken minutes before the shooting, he was at the house.

Alex made it clear that he was pleading innocent and a statement from Alex’s attorney states, “Alex wants his family, friends and everyone to know that he did not have anything to do with the murders of Maggie and Paul. He loved them more than anything in the world.”

This case was expected to take up to 3 weeks, but only took three hours to come to a verdict. Alex was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Alex Murdaugh will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Law enforcement then came out with a statement and said, “It was very clear from day one that law enforcement and the Attorney General prematurely concluded that Alex was responsible for the murder of his wife and son.”
