Everybody who is familiar with popular culture and music can easily recognize Rihanna Fenty as the singer of the hit songs “Pon De Replay” and “Work”, but not many may recognize her as an entrepreneur who is business savvy and has worked her way up the wealth ladder. Rihanna has gained billionaire status at the age of 34 with a now accumulated net worth of $1.4 billion. The Bajan-American musical phenomenon shocked the world in 2016 when she released her very last album and the following year embarked on the journey as an entrepreneur with the launch of the iconic cosmetic brand, Fenty Beauty.
Fenty Beauty immediately became a hit amongst all makeup lovers of every race, age, and culture all across the world. Not simply because of the name that the brand is attached to but because of the drive that Rihanna has to preserve and represent diversity with a wide range of foundations that initially claimed 40 shades, but has now expanded to 50 as well as 50 concealers. Rihanna co-owns Fenty Beauty with French luxury retailer LVMH which is led by the French billionaire and CEO Bernard Arnault.
Forbes reports that the billionaire’s Fenty Beauty “generated more than $550 million in revenue in 2020.” which has led her to becoming the 2,070th richest person in the world and the richest female musician. Not only has Rihanna exhibited her business savvy expertise with Fenty Beauty, but she also proceeded to make consumers happy the following year in 2018 with her surprising yet jaw dropping launch of her lingerie brand, Savage X Fenty. Savage X Fenty was a pleasant surprise to women across the globe as they showed off their beauty in the uniquely designed and sized bras, robes, and loungewear sets.
The wide range of sizes (XS to 3XL) is not the only thing that has gotten fans excited, but also the annual Savage X Fenty Fashion show which featured some of the world’s most renowned models such as Bella & Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Irina Shayk, and Precious Lee. Savage X Fenty was ranked #3 as one of Fast Company’s 10 most innovative style companies of 2020 due to the remarkable definition that Ms.Fenty has displayed when keeping her brands inclusive as well as advantageous. She has a 30% stake in Savage X Fenty, which raised money at a $1 billion valuation in February 2021.
Of course, Rihanna has been known to the world as the beloved singer since 2005, but clearly she has decided to take a step back from the occupation. Once in a while she will surprise us with new singles to keep the Navy, her loyal fanbase, on their toes. For example in 2020 Rihanna made a mini comeback when she featured on “Believe It”, a song by Partynextdoor, a Canadian singer known to have worked with Kanye West and Drake, and again in 2023 on the Black Panther 2 soundtrack with the songs “Born Again” and “Lift Me Up”. Rihanna has proved she can excel in both entertainment and business, surely the Barbados-born mogul is nothing short of a jack of all trades.
