The Tewksbury Redmen football team has jumped out to a 4-0 start on the season. Most recently they defeated Dracut on home turf by a score of 39 to 7.

The team has outscored their first four opponents so far this season by a combined 83 points, with the closest call coming in an overtime win in North Andover by a score of 35 to 27.

Head Coach Brian Aylward did not credit one individual for the success, rather he credited the whole team:

“Credit goes all the way around, from the coaching staff being focused and understanding we had a lot of new players that were gonna be in the mix, and the guys up front particularly the offensive and defensive line so far they’ve been excellent and still improving.”

Tewksbury is a small school, but the team still plays games against much larger schools. Prior to the season the team moved up a division, but they have not let that interfere with their mindset.

“As far as how that’s impacted us we’ve always been traditionally one of the smallest, Tewksbury has to play with a chip on their shoulder all the time, it’s always David vs Goliath for us so we’ll be ready to play no matter who we gotta play.” Said Aylward.

Even with a team that is a bit more inexperienced than a typical team, Tewksbury does not back down from any challengers. Each time they take the field they make it a point to fight and play their hardest. They cannot afford to treat any team as an easy opponent, they want to make every game a dog fight.

Both the coaches and the players know that they cannot afford to have lapses in focus or take any opponent too lightly on the field.

Aylward said about the schedule, “The next game’s our superbowl, we gotta treat it that way every time in order to be successful.”

When preparing for games it can be beneficial to have fewer players on your team. When that is the case, it allows everyone a chance to play an important role.

Aylward stressed how everyone on the team must play their part, “We got a lot of good guys that are there everyday, working hard, they understand their role on the team and they’re willing to contribute however they have to do it.”

While getting off to a good start was important there is still work to be done for the Redmen, and that means individual work for each player.

The focus will now shift to a home matchup next Saturday against Lawrence. If there’s one thing that is certain it is that the team will be ready to go and play hard for one another.
