Redmen Hockey Heating Up

The Holiday break was a time for all to relax and enjoy the Holidays with their families. However, for the Redmen Hockey team the break quickly turned into a business trip when they traveled up to Maine for their annual holiday tournament.

The Tournament was a chance for the Redmen to right the ship after opening up the season 0-2. Their first game of the tournament was a match up with Biddeford, Maine.

Pat Letourneau got the start in the net for the Redmen and he helped guide them to a 4-2 win. The goal-scoring was wide spread as the Redmen got goals from Billy Giasullo, Campbell Pierce, James Cash, and Richie Collarusso.

The second game of the tournament the Redmen played Gorham, Maine. This was a dominant performance for the team as they won 8-0. The goal scorers for this game included Sean Barker, Colby Pierce, Johnny Spinelli, Tommy Craig, Erik Harrington, and Campbell Pierce. The Redmen scored at least 2 goals in every period, tacking on 3 in the first, 2 in the second, and another 3 in the final period.

The Redmen’s final game up in Maine was against Brunswick. This game was a lot more hard fought than their previous matchup. The first period ended with a 1-1 tie as the Redmen got a goal from Billy Giasullo. The game would stay knotted at 1 all the way until 4 minutes remaining in the third period. It was then Ryan Flynn was able to give the Redmen the advantage and they held on for an impressive 2 to 1 victory.

The Redmen returned back to Tewksbury with an encouraging 3-0 performance up in Maine. It was a quick turnaround for the Redmen as they had a new years eve matchup with their rivals Wilmington.  In the first period the Redmen had a good opportunity for a goal as they got a power play chance with 5:59 remaining in the period and again with 2:50 to play. Unfortunately, they could not find the back of the net either time and the period ended with the score  still 0-0.

The scoring finally opened with 10:37 remaining in the second period when Campbell Pierce got a goal for the Redmen. Jonathan Fowler and Colby Pierce assisted the goal. The Redmen maintained their lead for the rest of the second period before Wilmington got on the board to tie it at 1 early in the third. Each team got one more power play opportunity over the remainder of the period but could not capitalize and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Regardless of the tie the Holiday Break was a success for the Redmen. One win is all it takes to get the ball rolling and momentum moving toward a big season and future success. The Redmen will turn their attention to league play as their next 3 match ups are all league games against Concord Carlisle, Lincoln-Sudbury, and Methuen.

The schedule really picks up over the course of January and the Redmen will look to continue their hot streak moving forward.
